Home Cheesemaking with Marc Druart (free with festival admission)
Vermont is famous for its cheesemaking and turning fresh milk into curd is truly an art. A hands-on cheesemaking demonstration will give you a glimpse into the science and art of making great and simple cheese at home! Marc Druart, Director of Research & Development at Emmi Roth USA, and friends will demonstrate the art of home cheesemaking from coagulating the milk to forming the curd and storing your cheese. Participants will be asked to assist Marc.
9:00 am–3:30 pm
Additional Cheesemaking Demo offered by Shelburne Farms
Visit the historic Farm Barn at the heart of Shelburne Farms.
Observe our cheesemakers at work crafting handmade cheddar in the production room, stroll around the courtyard, and befriend the animals in the Children’s Farmyard. Cheesemaking puts the “Farm” in Shelburne Farms — learn how cheese supports our education programs for sustainability, or simply relax in this beautiful place. We are making cheese 9:00 am–3:30 pm on Festival day. To get to the Farm Barn, take a twenty minute walk through the woods, catch a wagon ride, or make the short drive from the Coach Barn.
